John Adams

Born in Torven Norway on June 19, 1874. According to alien registration form, John Adams entered the U.S. via Boston on June 1, 1905. He filed for first papers at Bemidji on Sept 8, 1906 but never got around to taking the next step. He worked loading lumber. He acquired two lots in East Bemidji (Lots 6-7, Block 2) in October 1913. As of Feb 25. 1918, he and wife Hansine had children Olga, age 15, Einer, age 20, John, age 13 and Christine, age 6, living with them. Son Einer Adams, born Mar 18, 1898 in Torvoen, Norway. Arrived in New Yor on Sept 9, 1913. Had lived in Bemidji for four years. Working as laborer for Crookston Lbr Co. as of Feb 1918. Olga was born May 1, 1903 in Torven Norway. Arrived in New York. Hansine was born in Kristiansand, Norway on Feb 6, 1872. Arrived in New York on Sept 9, 1913. John born about 1905. Olga married Teeman Braaten in 1922.

John came from Norway in 1905 and established himself in Bemidji. His wife Hansine and the children came to Bemidji in 1913 when he was able to purchase property in East Bemidji and provide for them. They lived in East Bemidji on Block 2 next to Allen Gehrke in 1920. He worked as a laborer at a mill. They had two Norwegian laborers boarding with them. One worked at the mill; the other worked at a lumber company. In 1930, he was a lumber piler for the box factory. They lived between Allen Gehrke and Frank Bahr. In 1934, he was employed by the Bemidji Wood Products Co. and still lived in East Bemidji. In 1940, he was still working 52 weeks a year. Neighbors were the Gehrkes and the Clarence Ehrenberg family. Hansine died in 1946. He moved to Mower County and died there in 1954.
