Aviation July 1918

A big military triplane, accompanied by ten men from the Overland Aviation Mechanics Training School on the midway in Minneapolis, left Minneapolis by motor truck on July 2, 1918. The plane was a welcome part of the 4th of July exhibition at Bemidji. It came on the truck and left on the truck. The plane was jealously guarded by a khaki clad crew on the lake front at the foot of Third street and incited much curiosity and interest. As much as they would have liked to allow the crowds to approach for an up-close inspection, government regulations and war time prevented that. Much appreciation went to Major Weaver, however, for permitting the plane to come to Bemidji as a major feature of the day.
