Barracks Housing (1946)

The city council agreed to lease the American Legion building on Midway Drive to BSC for use for student housing. It was to be converted into barracks type apartments for some 20 male students of the school. (Bemidji Pioneer, August 31, 1946)

So many students attended Bemidji State College after the war, that there was a desperate need for housing in Bemidji. The American Legion building was constructed by the WPA in the 1930s, and later was used for the Wildlife Museum. It currently is the Municipal Liquor Store.
