On July 17, 1918, Martin Dunn, the first party, received $1 from Anna Dunn and transferred the mortgage made by Telesphore and Hosanna Beaudette to her amounting to $824.00 plus interest of 8% from July 17, 1918.

Nothing was listed on this block of Park Avenue in 1920-21 except at the corner at 823 Park Ave.

Ole Theodore Haugen moved to Bemidji in 1919 following his service in WWI. He was listed among the sick/wounded who returned to the U.S. in 1919. This full Norwegian, born in Erskine, married Edith O’Grady on June 7, 1920. In 1940, the family included eight children: Leo, Lowell, Betty Lou, Lyle, Lola, Gladys, Laurence and Norbert. Ole worked mainly in logging. Edith died in 1969. Ole died at his home on Oct 3, 1972. Both are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Leo J. “Bud Haugen” continued to live here. He was the eldest son of Ole and Edith Haugen. He graduated from Bemidji High School, then worked in the WPA. One of the projects of which he was the proudest was the split-rock observation platforms on the west and south shores of Lake Bemidji. He worked at his father’s tavern, Ole’s Poor Air-Conditioned Tavern, for several years. He served in the Army from December 1942 to November 1944. He particularly enjoyed playing the harmonica and camping. He died in 1998.

The property was purchased for $59,700 on December 2, 2005. The home changed ownership again in January 2020.
