This was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Walling from about 1956-1970. Mr. Walling opened the Index Stationery store at 505 Minnesota Avenue on April 16, 1932. Prior to opening the store, he had been a salesman for the A. C. McClurg stationery company for several years. He died March 26, 1965. Mrs. I. E. Walling sold the Index Book and Stationery store to Hugh McCormick as of March 1, 1968. I loved that store and spent lots of time in elementary school admiring the fountain pens. To this day, I still like the feel of well-balanced pen.
James Walling graduated from Oak Hills Bible School and then attended Columbia Bible School in Columbia, S.C. (1967) Son Doug Walling was a wrestler for the Bemidji Lumberjacks in 1959 and a graduate of BHS in 1960. He was married in 1965 and served in Vietnam.
The house was for sale by Dickinson Realtors in 1974.
