Bartlett Stafford (1872 – 1951)

Bartlett was a pioneer resident and veteran Bemidji barber.

As noted by the Bemidji Weekly Pioneer, “Fosston is losing two first-class tonsorial artists. Messrs. Bart and Wilford Stafford, who have grown to superior excellence in their trade here, are starting a barber shop in Bemidji this week.” (Bemidji Weekly Pioneer, October 19, 1899.

Bartlett Stafford lived at 617 Irvine Avenue from 1915 until his death on Feb. 23, 1951. Effie Stafford, his wife, continued to live there until her death in 1973.

Mr. Stafford was born in Meeker County, Mn., on Jan 14, 1872. He was a resident of Bemidji for 52 years. He served as alderman of the Third Ward during the years 1922 and 1923, and as a member of the Bemidji Civil Service Police Commission in 1939 and 1940. He was a trustee of the Moose Lodge during the years 1921 to 1923.
