William Sherwood bought Lot 9, Block 5, First Addition on April 3, 1900 from Bemidji Townsite Company for $50. Although the taxes were assessed against Frank Sprague for the home’s first years, it was occupied by the Robert Clark family (1904-1907). Mr. Clark was the assistant postmaster.
“A number of the little friends of Merideth and Mercedes Clark. the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark, gathered at their home on 807 Minnesota avenue yesterday afternoon and spent several hours very pleasantly, as guests of the Clark children. The occasion was a birthday party, being commemorative of the birthday anniversary of both children, whose anniversaries are nearly on the same date, although born different years. The little folks had a fine time.” (Mar 19, 1907)
In 1910, it was owned by Vinton L. Ellis and his wife Florence. He worked for the T. J. Miller Co. which handled real estate, loans, and insurance. He died in 1912 at the young age of 31. He received a huge funeral. Pallbearers were his brother Elks. The entire Bemidji band attended the funeral and accompanied the body to Greenwood cemetery. The band played a funeral march while accompanying the cortege. Bemidji printers, the band, and Elks each placed floral pieces near the casket.

The only guests were the immediate families of the contracting parties, and Rev. and Mrs. Warford. A wedding dinner was served after the ceremony. The home became the property of Charles A. Wagner and his wife Nora for the next ten years from 1922-1932. Mr. Wagner worked for the M & I railroad. They moved to Los Angeles about 1932.
