Herbert G. Kanne and family lived here from about 1927-1942. He was raised in Odessa, Mn. and married Lois Ferne in Odessa in 1917. They moved to Bemidji in 1923. He worked for the Blue Valley Creamery. Later, he was self-employed as a wood dealer and then a driver for Land O’Lakes Creamery until becoming custodian for the public schools and the college. He and wife Lois lived here with sons Gordon and Roy. They also had a daughter. In 1958-1964, they lived at 523 12thSt. In 1970, he was living in the neighborhood at 807 12th Street, so he didn’t move very far away. In 1971, he was the winner of the Vagabond Weekend Vacation sponsored by 24 area businesses. He then had six weeks to decide where of the 12 different Canadian and American cities he wanted to take his family for a vacation.

Chester and Amy Dietel were married in Collinwood in 1902. They were engaged in farming in Nebish for many years but moved to Bemidji about 1941. They lived in this home from at least 1953–1963. Tragedy struck when Chester Dietel and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dietel were killed in a car accident at Cass Lake, May 26, 1963. Services were held for all three at the Olson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Amy Dietel continued to live in the home for several more years before she moved away. She died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1977.
