A stalwart woodsman was put\u00a0down and out in one of the fastest\u00a0rough and tumble events which\u00a0has recently occurred at Jens\u00a0Hansen’s saloon, early this morning. Henry Hopis, the bartender, did the job, and an iron\u00a0cuspidor was the medium. The\u00a0bartender and the woodsman became involved in a dispute over\u00a0the payment of drinks. The\u00a0woodsman stepped up to the bar\u00a0and laid his money down for a\u00a0long chance, when the wall\u00a0flowers promptly lined up and\u00a0the bar boy served all\u00a0hands around. The woodsman
\ndid not feel it his duty to settle\u00a0the bill and a dispute followed in\u00a0which both were quite aggressive. The woodsman started to\u00a0take the bartender into camp and\u00a0the latter struck him a vicious blow\u00a0over the head with a cuspidore.\u00a0He was unconscious for some\u00a0time and the blow was at first believed to be fatal. Dr. Morrison\u00a0was promptly summoned and by\u00a0prompt work succeeded in stopping the flow of blood from the\u00a0wound. He will suffer no serious effects aside from an ugly\u00a0scar and is resting easily at present. Hopis paid his doctor bill\u00a0and was in police court on a\u00a0charge of assault, where he paid\u00a0his fine of $25 and costs. Hanson’s place is the Pioneer saloon\u00a0next to the Lumbermen’s bank\u00a0and it has been notorious for\u00a0some time. The council is expected to take steps to revoke\u00a0his license at once as complaints\u00a0against the place have been too\u00a0frequent of late to warrant a further show of leniency.
